In the modern age of technology, the doors of possibilities have opened for the world of art.
Meet the Artists Changing the Game of Art and Technology
Ever since the conception of technology, art has always found a way to hold its hand and form a very special relationship. The two have danced together in harmony throughout history with the emergence of new technologies. What was once seen as impossible, is now more than possible, proven by artist Ada Sokol, who recently created enticing and engaging imagery for the Gentle Monster x Moooi collaboration.
“3D is a powerful invention and an extensive world to explore. It’s even tricky sometimes how effortless you can drown in unreality with 3D software.”
Innovative curators have found usefulness in new technologies, creating a stunning virtual world that has revolutionised the realms of fashion, art and tech. 3D artist and designer Ada Sokol was commissioned to design unique imagery for the Gentle Monster x Moooi Third Eye collection back in November. The artist has also worked with notable brands such as Nike and Linda Farrow as well as collaborating with publications such as Novembre for the cover of their 11th issue. Talking to Dry magazine, Ada explains “3D is a powerful invention and an extensive world to explore. It’s even tricky sometimes how effortless you can drown in unreality with 3D software.”
Another artist pushing the envelope with their captivating virtual world is Wang Newone. Based in Shanghai, the innovative designer uses the digital space to create futuristic humanoids that challenge ideas of what is possible when you marry art and technology. The artist posts her work regularly on her Instagram @lure_wangnewone and transcendent videos on her YouTube channel. In an interview with King Kong online, Wang Newone describes the process of her work, stating “I feel as if I’m digging a dark, wired hole each time I’m working on a piece.”
Many other artists who are changing the game of art and technology share Wang Newone’s gaming influence. Peter Nowacki, 3D designer and computer artist for award-winning CGI studio Ars Thanea, has created many intricate worlds for games and marketing campaigns, including a mental health campaign for the Mental Health Centre of Denver. The worlds he creates with Ars Thanea are both complex and effortless at the same time, a world where the possibilities of what can be created are endless. Winning the Autodesk AREA “Artist of the Month”, Nowacki has become established in his field and has even been commissioned by HBO for various campaigns.
The capability of art and technology is rapidly growing and a repertoire of work that these creatives have made has opened the door for endless possibilities, from innovative art pieces to enticing advertising campaigns. With this growing repertoire of work, it is to be seen what comes next in this field. Will technologies such as VR and AR allow us to immerse ourselves physically in these artistic virtual worlds, will they become tangible to the touch? Who knows, but whatever it is, we are on board.
