Northern designer and artist Claire Barrow drops a capsule collection of wearables and unwearables, photographed by recording artist and image maker Hannah Diamond.
Best known for blurring the lines between art and fashion, this season, Claire rejects the traditional catwalk once more, taking to her Instagram account over the weekend to announce the online-only drop.
“When I was still doing seasonal collections, it was all about wholesale and making everything for the store. I felt I didn’t suit that as a visual artist,” Claire said to Dazed last year. “There’s a lot of big brands doing really nice clothes but that’s not what I never really fit into, so I don’t feel part of that.”
Continuing to push the boundaries of her DIY eccentric aesthetic; dresses, silk-separates, cut-off sleeves and hoodies feature her signature creepy painterly printed illustrations and patchworked fabrics. The capsule extends to include her no-two-the-same handmade clay earrings and chokers, silk illustrated pillows, custom tights and posters.
Last year, the designer won Matches’ initiative entitled The Innovators – a scheme that aimed to support a different gang of young designers each season by pushing their collections to a wider market.
