With the launch of Apple’s iOS 11 software update this week, in addition to its new features, it also brings the first drop of augmented reality apps created using ARKit tech – a framework that can blend digital objects and information with the environment around you. One of the most interesting apps using Apple’s augmented reality is Ikea Place – which basically helps make decorating your home a lot less painful and a little bit more like playing a game of The Sims.

Using an iPhone camera to scan a room, tap through the app’s catalogue of over 2,000 products to preview how furniture will look in your home. Then, rotate and reposition the pieces to see how they’d look from different angles. You don’t need the new iPhone 8 or X to use it, simply download Apple’s iOS update and give the app permission to access your camera and get snapping!
